Christie Engineering
Christie Engineering is a small Australian owned family operated business, comprising of Les, Anne, and two sons Peter, and Michael Christie. Michael now works full time due to the increased demand for our products.
Our company has always been environmentally friendly, so all our products and actions we take must have a minimal impact on our environment.
One product we have produced for many years is a hydraulic soil sampling machine, used by agriculture firms, universities, and soil scientists. The machine extracts soil core samples, which are tested for contaminants during environmental impact studies, or to find what type of nutrients need to be added for large grain crop farms to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers.
As we love traveling to remote areas of Australia in our four-wheel drives, the need for a small battery charger that could re-charge vehicle batteries in a minimal amount of time was required. It had to be lightweight and very economical on fuel, but economically priced.
We needed such a product as our 12-volt car fridge used power from the vehicle batteries to run, and we could not stay camped longer than a 24-hour period, as the batteries would flatten, leaving us stranded in remote areas. After searching world wide for a product that would suit our needs, we found that no such device was available. We then decided to design the product ourselves.
The design we came up with uses a Honda engine, directly coupled to a 55-amp Australian made Bosch alternator, with a re-designed voltage regulating system. To show what amperage rate the batteries were being charged at, we designed an electronic circuit board, which features a precise digital ammeter display.
